About Retail/Pharmacy Drug LICENSE
In India a business of drugs or cosmetics in India without an appropriate license is obtained for the conduct of such activity. This license in India is granted by the competent authority under the drug and cosmetic act 1940
Drug control organization issues two types of license, out of which one is Retail Drug License (RDL) to run a chemist shop. It is issued to only those persons who possess a degree or diploma in pharmacy from a recognized university. And other is Wholesale Drug License (WDL) which is issued to a person who is engaged in the business of wholesale drugs and medicines
This drug license is required in case a person wants to open a pharmacy. They should hold a valid retail drug license in form 20,20-A/C/F and 21. The Drugs and Cosmetics Rules, 1945 contains guidelines for the storage, sale, and prescription of each drug.

Different types of licence required for the sale of drugs

- License on Form 20 is issued for the sale of Allopathic drugs by retail other than those specified in Schedule C, C(1) and X. (Form-19)
- License on Form 20-A is issued for the sale of restricted Allopathic drugs by retail other than those specified in schedule C, C(1) and X. (Form-19A)
- License on form 20-C is issued for sale of Homoeopathic medicines by retail. (Form-19B)
- License on Form 21 is issued for retail sale of Allopathic drugs specified in Sch C & C(1).(Form- 19)
- License on Form 20-F is issued for retail sale of drugs specified in Sch. 'X'. (Form-19-C).
Complete Checklist of RETAIL/PHARMACY DRUG LICENSE
- Copy of Adhaar card/voter identity
- Pan card of company /director firm & partners/proprietor
- Property papers copy/Ownership Proof (if owned property)
- Rent agreement copy (if rented property)
- Electricity Bill/ water bill /telephone bill
- MOA/AOA ( in case of temporary copy of partnership in case of partnership) or GST/ST2 in case Proprietorship Firm.
- 2 Photographs white each (White background) Directors or owner
- List of items in which the firm or organization in which firm will deal.
- Qualification Certificates of Pharmacist B/D Pharma
- Appointment Letter In case Pharmacist is an employee on their Letterhead.
- NOC from all concerned bodies.
- Passport Size Photo of Competent Person
- Directors ID Proof , Pan Card and Passport Photo

Storage Facilities
Adequate storage facilities including cupboards with glass doors, racks refrigerator is required
